Heroes II is still my favorite game of the series, but Heroes III is a close second, and there’s a lot more content available for it.Bloons td 7 See full list on btd7pota. If not, then I’d skip Heroes V and pick up the Heroes III Complete pack, if you can find it. On the other hand, the tactical battles are by far the best in the series, and the game is almost worth playing for those alone.Īll this is assuming that you’ve already played the previous HoMMs to death, though.

It falls short of previous games in the series in a number of ways–the clunky 3D maps, the quality of the campaigns, the lack of standalone scenarios (though that is less of an issue now that there is a map editor). I have sort of a love/hate relationship with Heroes V. I also like that they re-added alternate upgrades, which was a great idea that should have been kept in the first place.

The map editor (and to a lesser extent, the random map generator handcrafted maps are almost always better in the HoMM games, but it’s nice to have a random map option) was a big exception. Ī lot of the stuff they dropped off wasn’t worth keeping anyway, though. Definitely the way to go I’d say.Įdit: Also, you can grab Tribes of the East for about $23 shipped from Gogamer, so it’d only be a few bucks more than buying HoMM5 from Steam. Then after I bought it I heard about the original skirmish maps being up for grabs. Never hopped on HoMM5 until I heard the last expansion was stand alone and included most of the goodies of the first games. To top it all off, you can apparently download the HoMM5 and Hammers of Fate scenarios and multiplayer maps for TotE with Ubisoft’s permission. It’s stand alone, and has all the races and artifacts from HoMM5, the first expansion, the new stuff it added itself, and includes the first expansion’s random map generator. If you’re thinking about picking HoMM5 up, I’d suggest just grabbing the Tribes of the East expansion.
